Counter Terrorism Advice for Businesses
Monday, 1st March 2010
Since 2002 the National Counter Terrorist Security Office (NaCTSO) has had, as one of its primary roles, the establishment, co-ordination, training and tasking of a network of Counter Terrorism Security Advisors (CTSA) throughout the UK.
- CTSAs are based within their local Police force area and within Wiltshire we are based at Police Headquarters, Devizes.
- CTSAs receive comprehensive specialist training in areas such as explosives and pre-cursor chemicals, pathogens and toxins, radiological sources, vulnerable point surveying, business continuity, information and personnel security, integrated security systems, designing out vehicle borne terrorism and the threat from CBRN.
- The majority of the work we carry out is coordinated and directed by NaCTSO, who work to the Association of Chief Police Officers as part of the Security Services Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI)
- NaCTSO and CTSAs have been delegated responsibility by the Home Office for dealing with protective security for ‘crowded places’. This means areas such as shopping centres, sporting stadia, bars, pubs and clubs, visitor attractions and commercial centres.
- Our core role is to identify and assess local critical sites within Wiltshire that might be vulnerable to terrorist or extremist attack; then devise and develop appropriate protective security plans to minimise impact on that site and the surrounding community.
- Additionally, we promote awareness of the terrorist threat within business sectors and develop positive ongoing relationships by appropriate discussion regarding any changes in the prevailing threat and therefore develop commensurate responses.
If you feel that we can help by assisting you with protective security/business continuity information or advising you when tasked with overseeing a high profile event please feel free to get in touch.
Remember, the better informed you are, the better the outcome of your event and/or your daily interaction with those that we are all seeking to serve and protect.
If you believe Wiltshire Police can be of any assistance in the future do not hesitate to call your local CTSAs on 01380 735011 or via the Wiltshire Police Website.
