Wiltshire Council supports small businesses

Small businesses in Wiltshire are being helped through difficult economic times by Wiltshire Council supported loans through the Action for Wiltshire programme.
In the current marketplace, banks are facing a range of competing pressures. Credit is harder to obtain and this is proving to be a problem for viable small businesses across Wiltshire.
Wiltshire Council has agreed to work with the Fredericks Foundation and GWE Business West Limited to set up a Small Business Loan Fund ‘Fredericks Wiltshire’ to address this problem.
The Fredericks Foundation is a charity dedicated to supporting small scale enterprise by providing loan finance where banks are unable to help.
Action for Wiltshire is the Wiltshire Assembly’s programme of support to tackle the effects of the recession in the county and prepare for economic recovery. It is made up of a group of organisations, including Wiltshire Council, working together to build a brighter future for Wiltshire.

The Fredericks Foundation is looking for volunteers from the local business community as well as the accounting and banking sectors to assist with assessing loan applications coming through the initiative. Local businesses and partners were invited to the launch event on June 10 at Hartham Park, Corsham where they found out practical ways in which they could help with this initiative to boost the Wiltshire economy and combat the effects of recession.
